Linden is a decidious tree growing to 30m by 20m. The flowers of the Linden tree have some proven medicinal value. In folk medicine, they have also been used to relieve stomach problems and cramps, flush excess water from the body, and calm the nerves. Liquid extract of dried flower with bract of Linden is commonly used as a remedy for bronchitis and cough. It has sedative and antispasmodic; hypotensive; diuretic; diaphoretic; anti-inflammatory; and mild astringent properties.
Linden is a relaxing remedy for nervous tension. It is also used as a prophylactic against the development of arteriosclerosis and hypertension and in the treatment of raised blood pressure associated with arteriosclerosis and nervous tension. A tea made from the fresh or dried flowers of Linden is antispasmodic, diaphoretic, expectorant, hypotensive, laxative and sedative. It is also used internally in the treatment of indigestion, hypertension, hardening of the arteries, hysteria, nervous vomiting or palpitation.
