(Mushroom Extract)
AHCC (Active Hexose Correlated Compounds) is an immune system enhancing nutrition supplement. It is a nutritional food supplement derived from the mycelia of several species of mushrooms including the shiitake. It is a mixture of polysaccharides, amino acids, lipids and minerals. It has been implicated to modulate immune functions and plays a protective role against infection. Mushroom extracts are known to have immunomodulating and antitumor effects in humans as well as in animals.
The active components of AHCC include glucans and an oligosaccharide. According to AHCC Research Association, various clinical trials conducted since 1987 in Japan have demonstrated that AHCC has the ability to support normal immune function and may improve number and functions of immune system cells. Intensive research has been conducted and continues in Japan, Korea and the USA to test its effectiveness of the nutrition supplement in enhancing the human immune system. The research shows positive results in tests on animals and in clinical studies of cancer patients undergoing chemo-therapy.
